These are the youth summer camps offered by Fresno State

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – For students interested in exploring a specific career path, experiencing what it is like to be a Fresno State student, or for those looking to improve their reading skills, Fresno State will be offering a variety of summer camps this summer.

The summer camps will be offered by various colleges and divisions on campus and include:

Arts and Humanities – FOOSA 2024

According to officials, the FOOSA Philharmonic is a pre-professional orchestra that allows advanced college musicians and a select number of exceptionally advanced younger pre-college students to enjoy a side-by-side performance experience with outstanding faculty members.

Organizers say this year’s program features Szymanowski’s Concert Overture and Mahler’s Symphony No. 7. Musicians accepted into this program enjoy daily private lessons, daily orchestra rehearsal and sectionals, recital opportunities, concerto competition and performances at the Fresno State Concert Hall, the Saroyan Theater and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

The application fee is $75, tuition cost is $1,475, and dorm cost is $600. The target age groups are ages 14 to 26, and the summer camp will be held from June 9 to June 23.

Continuing and Global Education – Summer Reading Skills program

Fresno State’s Division of Continuing and Global Education offers summer reading skills programs designed and taught by instructors from the Institute of Reading Development.

According to organizers, these single-grade programs teach key reading skills, from phonics and sight words for younger children to comprehension, reading speed, textbook strategies for older kids, and “everything in between.”

Guided by a knowledgeable and supportive teacher, officials say students in these programs experience success with reading repeatedly, developing their skills, and building confidence in outstanding books at the right level for each age, which helps children avoid the challenges of summer learning loss.

The programs will be offered on-campus at Fresno State and the Visalia Campus to pre-K age groups through 10th grade, and the cost varies by age group. There will be five-week programs in June and July, and the times and dates vary by age group.
