Youth Soccer Players Found Alive After More Than a Week Trapped in Cave: Reports

All 12 members of a youth soccer team and their coach have been found alive after they were trapped inside a cave complex in northern Thailand for more than a week, according to reports.

The group, which includes 12 boys under age 16 and their coach, had been trapped by rising waters inside the Tham Luang caves since June 23, when heavy rain hit the northern province of Chiang Rai, Reuters reported.

The regional governor announced Monday that the team had been found following days of frantic search efforts, according to USA Today.

Rescuers battled muddy and fast-moving floodwaters to reach the boys. On Thursday, the U.S. joined the search, sending a team of military personnel to assist in rescue efforts.

Further details were not immediately available.
