Youth 2 Leaders ‘Bridging Voices Conference’

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — One organization is taking steps to ensure Kern County students find success in the classroom.

The Youth 2 Leaders Bridging Voices Conference kicked off Saturday, empowering English language learner parents within the KHSD. This two day conference is to boost involvement for parents of English language learners in the Kern High School District, to increase the number of Kern County youth thinking about going to college.

There’s a resource fair, breakout sessions, and keynote speakers.

Seasonal trend: Kern County employment report

At least 76.6% of Kern County residents have a high school diploma or higher, but the Youth 2 Leaders Education Foundation is dedicated to ensuring the next generation of Kern County students break through language barriers and reach new endeavors.

“We focus on trying to raise the percentage of students to get into higher education whether it’s a junior college, 4 year universities or a CTE program,” said Gabriel Adame, with the Youth 2 Leaders Foundation. “So, anyway that we can again provide these resources for parents, we’re going to.”

The two day conference continues through Sunday. For the past 30 years, the Youth 2 Leaders Foundation has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships, serving nearly 3,000 youth every year.
