When officers arrived, they found a little girl suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers said she was taken to a nearby hospital and is in critical condition.

Police did not give any information about a suspect or if anyone is in custody.

KCPD Chief Stacey Graves spoke out following the incident Friday.

“This is indicative of a problem here in Kansas City, this is a situation where we have people who are settling some sort of conflict with gunfire,” Graves said.

With no suspects in custody, Kansas City police are asking the public for help, as another innocent child is caught in the crossfire.

The girl’s grandmother told FOX4 early on Friday that right now her granddaughter has a 50/50 chance to survive.

The chief of police was clear, saying Kansas City has a culture of settling conflict with gunfire.

“It’s very frustrating when you continue to have incident after incident of gun violence even more so, want to empathize even more so, when you have innocent child victims caught in the cross fire,” Graves said.

This incident no different, as the 4-year-old was in the car with her father, just before 11 p.m. Thursday. That’s when everything changed for this family.

In video viewed by FOX4, you can see the whole shooting play out, with one car stopping in the middle of a busy stretch of Raytown Road, that’s when you see and hear the gunfire, more than two dozen rounds.

“It’s frustrating for anybody to get shot, let alone a 4-year-old. She was in a car, it’s terrible, people need to tell, somebody knows who did it,” Timothy Robins said.

One of those bullets hit the child in her head.

This marks the fourth innocent of a child shot in the last month, two of those children six or under.
