York teen gunman gets up to life in prison for murdering 16-year-old in 2021

YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– The teenage gunman who fatally shot a 16-year-old in York County may spend the rest of his life in prison.

Alexis Cado-Suero, 18, of York, was sentenced to spend between 45 years and life for murdering Tyree Smart, 16, in March 2021, according to the York County District Attorney’s Office.

Smart was found by York City Police officers on the 300 block of West Newton Avenue just before 3 p.m. suffering from gunshot wounds. He died despite police efforts to save him.

It wasn’t till a few months later in June when police were able to arrest Cado-Suero. He was caught after an officer heard gunshots and responded to the scene, where they found Cado-Suero who led them on a brief foot chase before he was captured.

In January, Cado-Suero was found guilty of his charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a minor after a four-day trial.
