York County student wins Virginia Lottery Thank a Teacher Art Contest

YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and one York County seventh grader’s artwork will be used to say thank you to thousands of teachers across the Commonwealth.

Maria Rose Sajan was honored as one of three winners of the sixth annual Virginia Lottery Thank a Teacher Art Contest.

After sifting through nearly 400 entries, three winners from the elementary, middle and high school levels were selected to have their artwork featured on thank-you notes that will be distributed to thousands of Virginia teachers during National Teacher Appreciation Week.

On Tuesday, Sajan was presented with a $200 gift card from the Supply Room, and the school received a $2000 credit fir its art department.

“The Lottery is proud to support Virginia’s K-12 public schools. The art contest takes that a step further by recognizing the creativity of three students in the Commonwealth and fostering future artists by giving back to the winning school’s art departments, thanks to our partners at The Supply Room,” said interim director Tony Russell.
