Yankees anger Boston union leader with hotel choice: 'This is a slap in the face'

The New York Yankees haven’t even started the American League Division Series against the Boston Red Sox and shots have already been fired. The Yankees drew the anger of a Boston union leader after the team opted to stay in a hotel while its workers are on strike.

The Yankees had to pass through a picket line just to get into the hotel. That decision drew some harsh words from Brian Lang, president of Unite Here Local 26. He called it a “slap in the face,” according to Boston Magazine.

We understand that there’s a very intense rivalry between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox, but quite frankly we’re a little outraged they would take it out on working class people who are out here sacrificing to improve their livelihoods,” Unite Here Local 26 President Brian Lang says in a phone interview. “This is a slap in the face to all Bostonians.”

Here’s what it looked like when the Yankees arrived:

Workers at seven Marriott-owned hotels in Boston have been on strike since Wednesday. They were joined by Marriott workers in San Francisco and San Jose on Thursday.
