SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- California air officials say a Japanese producer of motorized vehicles will pay $2.2 million to resolve allegations that the company sold uncertified vehicles in California.
The California Air Resources Board announced Monday that Yamaha Motor Corp. USA and Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd. of Japan have agreed to a court-approved settlement to resolve allegations of illegal importation and sale of uncertified off-highway vehicles.
The allegations stem from 2007 off-road models known as "Rhinos" apparently failing to meet the state's anti-smog certification requirements.
The settlement stipulates that both the air board and Yamaha will stop further legal actions related to sales of the vehicles and Yamaha has agreed that future vehicle sales will fully comply with California law.
A call seeking comment from Yamaha Motor Corp. USA was not immediately returned.
