Xbox One hosts a collection of impressive entertainment apps at launch

The future of the Xbox One will be unveiled on June 9th

On Thursday, we got our first look at the full lineup of entertainment apps that will be appearing on PlayStation 4 next week. It’s a competent list of video streaming apps that seem to come standard on basically every electronic device under the sun. Now Microsoft has unleashed its own list on the Xbox Wire, and the options seem far more appealing. The full list of “first wave” entertainment apps on the Xbox One (in the U.S.) is as follows:

  • Amazon Instant Video

  • Crackle

  • CWTV

  • ESPN

  • FOX NOW

  • FXNOW

  • HBO GO (coming soon)

  • Hulu Plus

  • Machinima

  • MUZU TV

  • Netflix

  • Redbox Instant by Verizon

  • Target Ticket

  • TED

  • The NFL on Xbox One

  • Twitch

  • Univision Deportes

  • Verizon FiOS TV

  • VUDU

There are a few omissions that didn’t make the jump from Sony’s console to Microsoft’s, but overall the Xbox One has a much more diverse list of heavyweight third-party apps at launch. The options are significantly more limited for international audiences, but Microsoft has secured some of the most important partners in the TV industry to ensure that consumers looking for a media center inside their consoles won’t be disappointed.

Microsoft also lists its own first-party entertainment content, which includes Xbox Fitness, Xbox Video, Xbox Music, Internet Explorer, Skype, SkyDrive and Upload. According to the Xbox Wire post, “ both the Xbox One and Xbox 360 entertainment app portfolios will continue to grow weekly.”
