'The X-Files' skewers Donald Trump and fake news

The X-Files has been subtly shading Donald Trump all season, but on Wednesday night’s episode, it took off the kid gloves.

The episode, titled “The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat,” was based on the idea that a man named Dr. They has been messing with people’s memories and causing the truth to be blurred. Trump’s name and face were absent from the episode, unlike when Mulder called Ted Cruz a moron, but it was clear that it was not some fake TV president they were skewering — it was Trump.

While talking to Mulder, Dr. They said, “You know, our current president once said something truly profound: ‘Nobody knows for sure.'” When Mulder asked what the president was referring to, the doctor replied, “What does it matter?”

A video about Dr. They said that the last place he was seen was at the last presidential inauguration where he was “amongst the hundreds of millions who attended,” mocking Trump’s claim that the crowd was much larger than the pictures showed. An image from the inauguration showed Dr. They wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat.

The show ended with a story about an alien coming to Earth and telling Mulder and Scully that a wall was going be built around Earth. “We can’t allow your kind to infiltrate the rest of the cosmos,” the alien told them. “You’re not sending us your best people. You’re bringing drugs. You’re bringing crime. You’re rapists.” Then, as the alien boarded his spacecraft, he was heard saying, “Bing, bing, bong, bong, bing.”
