There's little point watching anything without Gillian Anderson in, let alone The X-Files.

Despite that, The X-Files creator Chris Carter is seriously considering season 12, sans Gillian (aka the most glorious woman in the world).

"I think there will be more X-Files," Carter told Den of Geek. "They haven't locked up the file cabinet in Mulder's office. There's still more stories to be told.

"It's not the same X-Files without Mulder and Scully. In the same breath, there is a lot of life left in the show. I think you haven't seen the end."

When asked if he has a replacement in mind for Anderson (IMAGINE TRYING TO FILL THOSE SERIOUSLY HOT SHOES), Carter replied: "I don't, but I've been working on this for a year. I'm tired and I don't want to think about it right now."

We know how you feel, Chris.

Gillian confirmed in late December that she really has made the decision to walk away from the sci-fi classic, only two seasons into its revival on Fox in the US.

Fox TV chairman Gary Newman later indicated that he thought Gillian could be talked round at some later point, though she then made her position on the show crystal clear.

"It's time for me to hang up Scully's hat. It just is," she told reporters at the TCA press tour in January.

As for her on-screen partner David Duchovny, he surprisingly said he was "good either way" if The X-Files ended or continued on in some new form.

The X-Files continues on Fox in the US and will air later in the year on Channel 5 in the UK.
