‘The X-Files’ Season 11: Will Mulder, Scully Look For William?

There might be a reunion between Mulder (David Duchovny), Scully (Gillian Anderson) and their son, William, in Season 11 of “The X-Files.”

Fox entertainment chairman David Madden revealed at the Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press tour on Tuesday that Mulder and Scully will be looking for William in the upcoming installment of the sci-fi series.

“We start the season right up from where the season finale left off with that big helicopter and takes you right from there,” Madden said (via Entertainment Weekly) of where Season 11 picks up. “You’ll be [then] launched into a very urgent adventure that has a lot to do with William — Mulder and Scully’s kid. So the search for William will be a significant thread through the show.”

Madden also revealed that William B. Davis will be reprising his role as the Cigarette Smoking Man next season, and fans might also see “The Lone Gunmen somewhere along the line.”

Unlike Madden, Fox CEO Dana Walden was more cautious about giving away potential spoilers. While Walden didn’t reveal any plot details about Season 11 at the TCA summer press tour, she did reveal what she thinks about the first script for the new season.

“Everyone’s seen the first script and it’s excellent,” Walden said (via Deadline). “It’s a very good starting place for the show and we’re excited about the next installment.”

As to how the 10 episodes of Season 11 will be laid out, Madden confirmed that the new season will be bookended by mythology episodes, and the eight episodes in between will all be stand-alone episodes.

“We’re really proud of last season,” Madden said of the 10th season of the Chris Carter-created series. “We had the responsibility to explain to the audience what had happened in the intervening seven or eight years. We’re free from that responsibility this time and can just plunge in and tell the stories. We’re having a lot of fun doing it. Eight of the episodes will be stand-alone stories so they will be classic ‘Mulder and Scully plunging into new adventures.’”

In addition to Duchovny, Anderson and Davis, Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner) and Annabeth Gish (Monica Reyes) are also set to return for Season 11.

“The X-Files” Season 11 will premiere midseason on Fox.
