Former X Factor contestant and pop singer Ella Henderson’s father has been jailed for three-and-a-half years for fraud.

Sean Henderson, 51, was, according to the BBC, convicted of his role in in a scheme that dupes investors out of large sums of cash with the promise of a return of up to 20%.

The only problem was that after guaranteeing unaware investors to part with their money he had no intention of giving them any sort of return or even their initial money back.

He was actually convicted back in May of 2016 but the sentencing was significantly delayed while two other trials were held and concluded.

Co-conspirator Stephen Keegan was also handed almost four years in prison time for the same fraud offence.

Henderson was found guilty of tax evasion as well, which saw him given an additional eight months added to his sentence, after failing to pay some £26,000 of VAT.

Between 2009 and 2010, Henderson had duped two victims into handing over huge amounts, around half-a-million EUROS (that’s £436,000) for the scam investment.

One of Henderson’s victims lost 80% of their savings to the conman’s scam and the judge had no sympathy for the offender: ‘The whole scheme, in my judgement, was a deliberate and pre-planned fraud designed to deprive naive victims of a substantial proportion of their life savings.

‘To this date neither of them have recovered any of the money that has been lost.’

Friends of Henderson described him as ‘kind and generous’, after the dad of singer Ella, 22, would do charity work for Comic Relief and Save the Children.

Ella competed in the 2012 series of X Factor where she finished sixth and subsequently was awarded a record contract with Simon Cowell. She had a UK Number 1 hit with Ghost, and her album, Glitterball, reached fourth spot in the UK album charts when released in 2015. She also featured on Bridge Over Troubled Water which was part of last year’s Artists for Grenfell after the tragic fire.
