X Factor Star Rebekah Ryan Arrested For Assaulting Ex’s New Girlfriend
X Factor hopeful Rebekah Ryan moved judge Sharon Osbourne to tears at the weekend, but while viewers reached for their hankies watching the singer’s emotional rendition of Sarah McLachlan’s Angel, the 40-year-old was detained by police following a shocking attack on her ex-boyfriend’s new lover.
Rebekah was taken into custody following the attack on 29-year-old Dee Overton outside a pub in Tamworth, Staffordshire on Sunday evening.
A police spokesperson told The Sun: “We were called at 7.15pm on Sunday, September 11 to reports of an assault outside the Fox Inn in Tamworth. A 40-year-old woman was arrested and given a conditional caution for assault by beating.”
Rebekah was in a relationship with ex-boyfriend Matt Debono for nine years. They have a son together, but split up last year.
“Rebekah knows it’s no excuse but the circumstances around the weekend were a culmination of personal issues with those involved.” a pal told Mirror Online. “She does regret hitting her and wants to put the issue behind her.
“Matt and Rebekah were together for about nine years and split over a year ago. Her ex’s new partner was trying to keep the peace. She was the mediator and then this happened.”
Rebekah, who has had a couple of record deals in the past, told the X Factor panel on Sunday’s episode that she had tragically lost her 3-year-old son Ethan to Sandhoff Syndrome, a rare inherited disorder that destroys nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
The toddler was tragically misdiagnosed by doctors after he showed no signs of developing when he was 10 months old.
This latest development in Rebekah’s backstory is likely to cause Simon Cowell something of a headache.
Whether it will scupper her chances on the show remains to be seen.
