Wyandotte County Lake remains closed following Sunday storms

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Wyandotte County Lake is still closed as of Wednesday afternoon following damage caused by Sunday night’s storms.

Wyandotte County Parks and Recreation said BPU crews are currently onsite working to restore downed powerlines damaged by the storms.

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County announced Monday the park at Leavenworth Road and 91st Street in Kansas City, Kansas faced extensive damages, including fallen trees and powerlines, as well as severe damages to some of the docks.

Unified Government representatives said, “The safety of the community is our top priority, and it is important that we take the necessary steps to ensure no harm comes to anyone at Wyandotte County Lake Park.”

With the lake still being closed, Wyandotte County Parks and Rec. said it was also canceling the Noxious Weed Chemical Sales scheduled for Thursday morning. The next sale date will be June 13.
