The Wall Street Journal has confirmed an earlier report that Google (GOOG) is looking to follow Apple (AAPL) and Microsoft’s (MSFT) lead and open its own brick-and-mortar retail stores. It was previously reported that the company would open retail stores that would offer consumers a chance to test out its latest Chromebook computers and Nexus line of smartphones and tablets. Google would also use stores to tell consumers about the benefits of Google TV and show off its upcoming Google Glass headset that’s capable of projecting images directly onto users’ eyes. Earlier rumors suggested the company was attempting to open stores ahead of this year’s holiday season, however The Journal’s sources could not confirm a specific timeframe. Google is expected to open its first retail stores in several major metropolitan areas across the United States.
