Wright Street Bark Park officially opens to the public

May 17—About 50 people gathered at Muehlhausen Park on Thursday morning for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Wright Street Bark Park.

Following comments by members of the Logansport Cass County Chamber of Commerce and the ribbon cutting, deputies from the Cass County Sheriff's Office and their K-9 partners demonstrated how the dogs are used in the field, which includes drug detection and weapon detection.

Funds for the dog park were raised through a $35,000 community fundraiser and a matching grant from the state.

The park is now open to the public. The Logansport Parks & Recreation Department will hold its grand opening celebration from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday.

Activities include a dog fun walk around Muehlhausen Park at 9 a.m., K-9 demonstrations by Logansport Police Department's K-9 handlers and their K-9 partners at 9:30 a.m. and free play for dogs in the park at 10:30 a.m.

The public is invited to bring their dogs who are well-mannered, friendly, non-aggressive, on a leash and up-to-date on vaccines. Scooping dog waste is required and waste bags will be provided. Free goody bags will be available to the first 50 dog owners, one bag per family, who register for the Dog Fun Walk.
