Sadly, Game over.

Longtime professional wrestler and WWE superstar Paul Levesque, better known to his fans as Triple H, announced today on "First Take" during an interview with Stephen A. Smith on ESPN that his in-ring career is over.

In September, the wrestler who goes by "the Game," suffered a medical emergency and needed a procedure on his heart. While he is expected to make a full recovery, his wrestling days are over, he said.

During the emotional interview, Levesque, who is married to WWE owner Vince McMahon's daughter Stephanie, said “I was nose-diving and sort of at the one yard line, where you need to be, where you don’t want to be, really."

While he's known for being a great wrestler and entertainer, he's also a father, having three daughters. That was his main concern.

“I don’t know if they understood the consequences of it," he said about his daughters. “Is this it? Do you wake up from this? That’s a tough pill to swallow.”

In recent years, Levesque has been more of a behind-the-scenes guy. He was the creator and executive producer of NXT, a developmental brand for the main WWE roster. During his time in charge of NXT, it was considered cutting edge and featured some of the greatest wrestling out there.

But before he wore a suit to work every day, Levesque was one of the best. He joined WWF in 1995 and slowly rose up the ranks to where he became the heavyweight champion.

He's had great Wrestlemania matches with The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, Randy Orton, Dave Bautista and Daniel Bryan. He was a founding member of the popular faction Degeneration X and had formed alliances with wrestlers like Michaels, Ric Flair and many others. His greatest rivalry was his battles against The Rock.

Levesque will remain involved with WWE when he returns to work. The company is eight days away from its biggest show of the year, Wrestlemania. Once again, it will be held over two days, April 2 and 3. It's available on pay per view, as well as the Peacock streaming service.
