WR Darren Carrington dismissed from Oregon
Wide receiver Darren Carrington is no longer on the football team. Coach Willie Taggart made the announcement on Friday.
“I have visited with Darren Carrington and informed him that he is no longer a member of our program,” Taggart said in a statement. “We will always consider Darren a Duck and support him in any way we can. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
Carrington was suspended from the team after an early morning DUI arrest on July 1. He was arrested after an alleged collision in a McDonald’s drive-thru.
In the fall, Carrington was accused of pushing a man and breaking the man’s arm while dressed like the Joker for Halloween.
Carrington has been a key contributor for Oregon with 112 catches for 1,919 yards and 15 touchdowns in 29 games over three seasons. He had 37 catches for 704 yards and four scores as a freshman in 2014 but was suspended for Oregon’s National Championship Game loss to Ohio State after failing a drug test.
He had 43 catches for 606 yards and five touchdowns in 2016 and was expected to be the Ducks’ top receiver in the fall.
