WPD investigating ‘unattended death’ in south Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita Police Department is investigating an “unattended death” in south Wichita.

Police were in the 2100 block of S. Volutsia, near Mount Vernon and Hillside, after receiving an anonymous tip that a person had been dead inside the house for two weeks.

WPD attempted a welfare check at the home around 11 a.m. Wednesday, but officers were unable to enter the house. They learned that multiple propane tanks were inside.

Authorities obtained a search warrant and requested assistance from WPD’s Ordinance Disposal Unit to ensure the home was safe to enter.

Once inside, officers found an unresponsive victim. Sedgwick County EMS declared the person dead.

The identity of the individual, as well as the cause and manner of death, are still pending further investigation and confirmation from the Sedgwick County Medical Examiner’s Office.
