‘The worst city in every state’: Reddit map gets attention, reaction

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A map of the United States seemed to be getting a lot of attention on Thursday, generating conversations and some outrage after it started making the rounds on Reddit.

The map’s title: THE WORST CITY IN EVERY STATE.

Within the boundaries of each state, the city that supposedly was the bottom of the barrel there appeared.

For Maryland, it was Poolesville in Montgomery County. For Virginia, it was Virginia Beach, which is located in the southeastern part of the state known as Hampton Roads.

Keep in mind, there was no point of reference for how the names came to be there, no criteria, no methodology. It appeared as if each one were chosen in the most random way possible. In fact, one person commented: “Those maps are 100% to get engagement and have no actual research behind them.”

People began grabbing the image and sharing it in multiple locations, and the reaction from most seemed to be disagreement in one form or another.

Someone posted the map in r/maryland, adding the title “POOLESVILLE???” at the top.

One person added the comment: “Grew up there, and can confirm that Poolesville is pretty great if you like expensive houses, great schools, safety, and boredom.” Another redditor said: “Yeah, I’ve never heard anyone diss on Poolesville. I trust an Aldi crabcake more than this infographic.”
