Despite figures below expectations, "How to Train Your Dragon 2" stays on top of the worldwide box office, above "Maleficent" and "22 Jump Street."
For its second week, "How to Train Your Dragon 2" has grossed over $68.8M worldwide, which keeps it on top of the worldwide box office, according to Rentrak. In second and third position, "Maleficent" grossed over $57.7M this week end and "22 Jump Street" gathered $43.1M.
While the sequel to the Dreamworks animated film remains the top-earning film worldwide, it only ranks third in the US with $25.3M, below "Think Like a Man Too" and "22 Jump Street."
Released last week, "Think Like a Man Too" starring Kevin Hart, Regina Hall, Terrence J and Adam Brody is ahead in the US with $30M. It only ranks fifth worldwide but could climb a few spots when it is released in other countries in September-October.
With 1.259 billion dollars earned since November 2013, "Frozen" remains on top of worldwide rankings in terms of its cumulative earnings, even though weekly takings are now slowing down ($3M this weekend). Trailing far behind are "X-Men: Days of Future Past" with $694M and "Maleficent" with $521.5M.
