Movie critics from around the world have been polled on their best movie of 2015, but chances are you’ve not seen it yet - and possibly not heard of it.

‘The Assassin’ has topped the list, a martial arts drama directed by Taiwanese helmsman Hou Hsiao-Hsien (you can check out the trailer below).

It was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this year, where Hsiao-Hsien won the gong for best director, and it’s been selected as the Taiwanese entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars next year.

But it will not be released in the UK until January, 2016.

The annual poll was conducted by the British Film Institute, and pulled in the opinions of 168 critics from around the world.
