With an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Midnight in Paris, Woody Allen has been cast in his first role in a film that he is not directing since 2000's Picking Up the Pieces.
Actor John Turturro (Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Cars 2) will direct the indie comedy, Fading Gigolo, which he wrote and will also appear in, according to Variety.
Turturro and Allen play best friends who start a gigolo business together and attract the suspicion of the Hasidic Jewish neighbors.
The film also costars Sharon Stone (Basic Instinct), who will play the gigolos' customer. Sofia Vergara (The Smurfs, Modern Family) may also join the project.
Allen will also appear in his upcoming film Nero Fiddled, which he wrote and directed in Italy. It costars Penelope Cruz, Roberto Benigni, Ellen Page (Inception) and Alec Baldwin (It's Complicated) and premieres on April 20 in Italy, in June in North America, then in other countries over the following months.
Production on Fading Gigolo is set to begin this April in New York.
