Woodland man charged in toddler’s death from March

(FOX40.COM) — A man is facing charges in connection to the death of a 2-year-old that occurred in Woodland in March, according to the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office.

According to officials, 34-year-old Julio Navarro-Vidrio was charged with involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment with a case enhancement that states the crime involved great bodily harm and that the victim was particularly vulnerable.

Navarro-Vidrio will appear on May 10 at the Yolo County Superior Court to face the charges.

On March 16, the Woodland Police Department said a 2-year-old had died after they were hit by a black Dodge truck near West Street.

At the time, the agency said it made contact with the man associated with the truck that hit the child but had not made any arrests.

The child was later identified as Ailahni, who according to her father, Sandro Sanchez, was enjoying tacos made by her godmother just before she was hit by the truck.

“She’s always been a happy baby,” Sanchez said. “We give her all the love we can. So, I know she left happy.”

Following the incident, Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig said Ailahni’s death was tragic and that his office would be reviewing everything, including surveillance video from the gas station near where she was struck.

Ailahni would have celebrated her 3rd birthday on Monday, her family said.
