Women to tell abortion ban stories at Manchester campaign event

May 9—CONCORD — A pair of women will come to campaign for the Biden-Harris campaign in New Hampshire next week to outline their struggles coping with abortion bans in their home states.

Kaitlyn Joshua of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Amanda Zurawski of Austin, Texas, will appear together at an event Tuesday in Manchester.

They have already campaigned on behalf of the Democratic presidential ticket in the battleground states of Michigan, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Arizona.

Zurawski nearly died due to a severe bacterial infection in Texas because doctors there were legally barred from performing an abortion even though they had concluded the fetus would not survive.

Amanda and Josh Zurawski were featured in a Biden reelection campaign ad that began airing last month.

Joshua said she was turned away from two emergency rooms to get treatment for a miscarriage she eventually had. The experience has led the mother of one and her husband, Landon, to decide for now not to have more children.

Abortions in New Hampshire are legal through six months. After that point they can only occur if the mother's health is at risk or if the fetus has a fatal anomaly.

New Hampshire is the only New England state without a law that expressly endorses the right to an abortion.

The Republican-led Legislature has repeatedly rejected bills to make that change.

The ban on later-term abortions here was adopted as part of a trailer bill to the state budget in 2021.

Former President Donald Trump had considered coming out in support of some abortion ban, but he ultimately decided that states should determine their own regulations with regards to abortion restrictions.
