Women face lesser charges in Erie shooting in house that nearly injured baby

Prosecutors have dropped the most serious criminal charges that two Erie women faced in a January shooting at a an apartment house in the city that nearly injured a sleeping baby and led to the recovery of two stolen weapons.

Felony counts of receiving stolen property and discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure were withdrawn against Keanna L. Flynn and Lamarreah A. Tate during their preliminary hearings, according to court records.

Tate, 18, waived three second-degree misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering to court at her March 7 hearing and is awaiting her formal arraignment in the case, according to online court records.

Flynn, 20, pleaded guilty to a third-degree misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct at her hearing on April 14, according to court records.

Erie police charged both women, along with two juveniles whose ages were not released, in a shooting that happened on Jan. 17 at a two-unit apartment house in the 1200 block of West Eighth Street. Investigators said a gunshot was fired in the upstairs apartment and went into the downstairs apartment, where it nearly struck a 5-month-old child sleeping in a crib.

Officers who responded to the shooting found an AR-15 rifle outside behind the apartment house and a Smith & Wesson 9 mm handgun in the basement of the building, Erie police reported.

Investigators said both guns were reported as stolen.

The juveniles were placed in the Edmund L. Thomas Adolescent Center after the shooting, according to police. Information on what charges they face in the incident was not available.
