If you’ve ever experienced a nagging, ongoing pain and wondered “should I get this checked?” The answer (after reading this) should be a resounding yes (not that we’re doctors or anything)! This comes after news of a woman thought she had a kidney stone when in fact, she was pregnant—YES—pregnant. The incredible story of Michael and Stephanie Jaegers has gone viral and for obvious reason. The unexpected birth of their fourth child, Shaun Jude Jaegers, has shaken up the Jaeger house while simultaneously making us go whatthehwhat?! The real question is, how can a woman go to the hospital with possible kidney stones and leave with a freakin’ baby? The answer night surprise you.

According to The Washington Post, Stephanie went to the hospital with back pain and (what felt like) menstrual cramps. Sounds simple enough, right? That, in addition to painful urination, pointed to possible kidney stones. Through the entire ghost pregnancy, she hadn’t experienced the “typical” symptoms such as nausea, feeling the baby move or kick, or weight gain. In fact, she admitted her weight hadn’t changed much and she was on her period! And yes, we’re all still trying to wrap our brains around it because seriously—what?

Please pray for Stephanie. I'll take as many as I can possibly get. More details when I've got time to explain.

When the couple arrived at the hospital that night, doctors at Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge, Georgia, weren’t convinced kidney stones were the culprit. They tested blood and urine, then ordered an ultrasound just in case. They soon discovered Stephanie was 38 weeks pregnant, her water had broken, and she was dilated. Oh, and she was having a baby right then and there. The couple had only a few short hours to mentally prepare for such a life change—and OMG—it’s all happening so fast!

Well, what Stephanie and I thought was going to be a kidney stone, turned out to be a beautiful baby boy. Shaun Jude...

Michael wrote on Facebook, “Well, what Stephanie and I thought was going to be a kidney stone, turned out to be a beautiful baby boy. Shaun Jude Jaegers was born at 3:50AM this morning weighing 7 lbs. 3 oz. We are both still in complete shock over the events of the last few hours and appreciate the prayers and well wishes. Now to fit 9 months of pre-planning into 2 days!”

Through the madness, the Jaegers continue to stay positive, calling little Shaun their “miracle.” Though, this hasn’t prevented a flood of negativity from those questioning how a woman—and mother of three—didn’t know she was pregnant. Haters gon’ hate but Michael explains in the post below.

So the question posed multiple times this morning is "How did you NOT know you were pregnant for 8 months??" Please...

He wrote, “Steph was diagnosed with pre-menopause awhile back which would justify the hormone imbalance also associated with a pregnancy. Shaun was also breech throughout the entire pregnancy which prevented him from moving around to indicate to Steph that he was in there and his position made it to where Steph didn’t ‘show.'”

He goes on to add, “The most bizarre part is she continued to have a menstrual cycle, which the hospital tells us is rare, but can happen. Lastly, Steph broke her ankle a couple of weeks ago and was laid up for the last couple of weeks limiting her movements. All of this together ruled out in our minds even the remote possibility of a pregnancy.”

TBH, it all makes sense. The term is “cryptic pregnancy” and it happens! If you experience hormonal imbalances, irregular periods, and abdominal pains, you should rule out pregnancy before seeking other medical help. Although, the Jaegers had a lot to adjust to, they seem to be doing just fine even stating Shaun us the healthiest baby of their four! Talk about a miracle!

With the discovery of a baby so quick with little to no time to prepare or think, the couple wasn’t sure when to tell their other three children and then the story went mega viral. Plus, after the birth of their 3-year-old daughter, Stephanie was told it was unlikely she could carry again.

Since they had no prenatal care, how could they know if Shaun would arrive healthy? Stephanie weighed in on their newest addition.

“It was scary for a second, but we’re lucky and thankful that it turned out the way it did,” Stephanie says.

We are, too! A friend of the family’s set up a GoFundMe page to offset the surprise expenses because let’s face it—a baby is expensive whether you’ve planned, or whether he’s a complete surprise!
