Woman stuck in chimney rescued in east Bakersfield: KCFD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue Team was forced to use specialized tools during a rescue Thursday.

On April 18, a woman was safely extracted from a chimney in the 1800 block of Chevy Chase Way, according to the Kern County Fire Department. Firefighters arrived on scene to find one woman trapped in the chimney, just above the flume. The KCFD Urban Search and Rescue Team was also deployed to this incident.

Fire officials said once they reached the roof, ropes were lowered in an attempt to pull the woman out but she was tightly trapped. After an hour of working to breach the brick chimney, the woman was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital.

The crews also attempted to lower oxygen to the woman but were unsuccessful.
