Woman stashed her grandma’s body in freezer for 15 years, PA cops say. Here’s why

A woman kept her grandmother’s dead body in a freezer for 15 years so she could steal her Social Security checks, Pennsylvania police said.

Cynthia Black, 61 of York County, Pennsylvania, was arrested and charged Wednesday with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and abuse of a corpse, the York Daily Record reported.

Police told CBS 21 News that Black made almost $200,000 from the Social Security checks.

In February 2019, people looking to buy the property found the woman’s body stuffed inside a freezer in one of the outbuildings, the news outlet reported. DNA testing confirmed it was the remains of Glenora Reckord Delahay, the TV reported.

Black said she found Delahay dead in March 2004, when the woman was 97 years old, according to the York Daily Record. She then carried her grandmother’s body to the basement and put it in the freezer because she needed the Social Security income, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

She used the money from the Social Security checks to pay the mortgage on a new home, and she moved the freezer with the body in it to the new home, The Inquirer reported.

A tentative preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 10, the news outlet reported.
