Good Samaritan tried to help woman, 3 kids involved in crash before shots fired in Gastonia Walmart parking lot: Police

GASTONIA, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – An alleged good deed turned strangely violent early Thursday morning when Gastonia Police said a woman fired rounds at a man who had stopped to help her following a car accident, leading to an officer shooting her.

Gastonia Police said the ordeal began at 6:42 a.m. when a woman driving with three children was involved in an accident in the parking lot of Walmart located at 3000 East Franklin.

Authorities said the vehicle was stuck up in the middle of a median on a small tree. They said a man had stopped to help her, and at that point, she began firing a gun.

Gastonia officers were called to the scene and one officer fired his weapon, striking the woman. Her gunshot wound is believed to be minor, police said.

Three children were inside the vehicle; a 1-year-old boy, a 7-year-old boy, and a 10-year-old girl. Police said the infant was taken to the hospital as a precaution for respiratory issues.

The NC State Bureau of Investigation is taking over this case. It remains open and ongoing.
