Last year, MonaLisa Perez pled guilty to shooting and killing her boyfriend Pedro Ruiz at short range. The 20-year-old was filming the stunt for her and Ruiz's YouTube channel in the hopes it would grow their following. Now, the West Central Tribune reports, she's been sentenced to 180 days in jail which will be served in 10-day increments.

Perez faced a maximum of 10 years in prison for the shooting. According to USA Today, Ruiz, 22, had been holding a book over his chest when Perez shot him; the two believed the book would stop the bullet. One of the couple's two young children was reportedly there at the time of the shooting.

Attorney James Brue argued the idea for the stunt was Ruiz's, which is the reason for the shorter sentence. Ruiz's aunt Paulita spoke in court before the sentencing, telling Perez: "This comes from the heart, where you shot him. You took him away from us, Mona."

Their YouTube channel - which is still live - has about 25,000 followers.
