Woman seriously hurt in Arapahoe County attempted homicide, 1 arrested

DENVER (KDVR) — A 53-year-old woman was taken to a local hospital in serious condition after an attempted homicide in the 5600 block of South Biscay Court.

A 29-year-old man, identified first as the woman’s son, was arrested in connection to the reported attempted homicide, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office. He was reportedly found in the backyard and refused to cooperate with officers.

On Sunday, the agency identified the suspect as Robert Holtam, 29. He was being held on a $50,000 bond for attempted murder and assault of his mother.

According to the agency, a 911 call was received around 10:15 a.m., requesting a welfare check for a home in the 5600 block of South Biscay Court. A woman was transported from the home with serious injuries, and as of Saturday afternoon, there was no update on her condition.

Officers allegedly engaged in over an hour of negotiations with the woman’s son, but after a deputy entered the home, he was taken into custody without further incident. He was arrested on charges of attempted homicide and first-degree assault.

Police search for suspect in deadly Fort Collins shooting

According to Ginger Delgado, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office public information officer, deputies found the woman bleeding in front of her home.

“We had a lot of deputies out here. We were just trying to negotiate to surrender and it wasn’t working, so we just kept going. Deputies walked into his house and he surrendered without incident,” Delgado said. “It’s just an unfortunate incident. It’s a nice quiet neighborhood and I think a lot of the neighbors were really frightened by what they saw because the woman was outside and was bleeding a lot.”

During the incident, East Smoky Hill Road was closed in both directions.

Keychia Wilds, a neighbor, said the whole cul-de-sac is “really close” and “always calm.”

“We were getting ready to go to the mall and I just heard something crash. We came out here and that’s when I saw her out here on the floor covered in blood and one of the other neighbors was out here talking to her,” Wilds said. “They’re really nice. We’ve always been friendly neighbors. She’s a really sweet lady and he’s normally very chill. He’s a good guy. I just hope that they’re both okay. They’re really good people.”

Delgado echoed Wilds’ sentiments.

“We’re just glad this came to a peaceful resolution. That’s all we ask for and we’re just really glad no one else was injured,” Delgado said.
