Woman Responds to Neighbor’s Homophobia with Pride-Colored Christmas Lights

Ten thousand Christmas lights make a pretty powerful rainbow.

For proof, look no further than the Silverdale, Washington, front lawn of Lexi Magnusson.

Magnusson’s new neighbor “told us that she moved her family here because her kids were too exposed to the ‘gays and transgenders’ in Oregon,” she wrote on Facebook. The woman added that she was “sick she was of seeing people ‘making it okay.’ ”

“Since regular aggression leads to assault charges, I went with passive aggression,” Magnusson added. So she invested in the aforementioned 10,000 lights and turned her front hedges into a brilliant Pride flag.

Further down in the comments, she mentioned that the rest of her Christmas lights were white, so there’d be no confusing the signal.

“I did say something to her,” Magnusson added in another comment. “I wasn’t mean, but it was enough that she won’t wave at me when we pass in our cars … which has forced me to make my waves to her more and more exaggerated each time.”
