Woman killed by vehicle at Silver Lake Sand Dunes, saved 2-year-old daughter

GOLDEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman was killed Sunday when she was hit by a vehicle at Silver Lake State Park Sand Dunes, deputies say.

It happened around 11:40 a.m. on the ‘drag strip’ area of the state park, located in Golden Township. The woman and her family were standing outside of their vehicle watching racing at the drag strip, the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

A Jeep CJ that was racing lost control and hit her family’s vehicle, the sheriff’s office said. It said she was able to push her 2-year-old daughter out of the way, but the woman was hit by the family vehicle.

Bystanders and first responders tried to save her, but she died from her injuries.

The sheriff’s office has identified her as Kadie L. Price, a 33-year-old woman from Pierson.

Deputies say Price likely saved her daughter “from serious injury or worse.”

“Please keep the Price family in your prayers,” the sheriff’s office said in the release.

The sheriff’s office is investigating. It is not releasing the name of the driver, identified as a 64-year-old man, pending further investigation.
