Woman killed, man injured in Wichita shootings

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A woman is dead, and a man is injured in two shootings Wednesday night.

Wichita police responded to the shooting call near 29th Street and Broadway around 8:30 p.m. Officers found a vehicle riddled with bullets and no victims. Police found out that the man went to the hospital after being shot.

Then, officers responded to another shooting at 17th Street North and Santa Fe and found another car with bullets and no victim.

“Another call came in for another shooting victim here again at St. Francis Hospital. That victim suffered a gunshot wound to her upper extremity, where she was then pronounced dead at the hospital,” Andrew Ford, Wichita Police Department public information officer, said.

Police identified the female victim as 21-year-old Jadidah Ponce of Wichita. Police told KSN News that she was dating the man who was shot.

“This appears to be a case of targeted violence between two particular groups of people and not a random shooting. Our investigators are processing multiple crime scenes related to this homicide,” said WPD Captain Aaron Moses.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111, the See Something Say Something hotline at 316-519-2282 or investigators at 316-268-4407.
