Woman killed after being struck by freight train in Red Bluff

A woman was killed Thursday night in Red Bluff when she was hit by a freight train while standing on the railroad tracks in Red Bluff, police said.

The deadly accident happened near South Main Street and Montgomery Road, the Red Bluff Police Department said in a news release posted on its Facebook page.

Officers were dispatched by Union Pacific officials just before 10 p.m.

The initial investigation revealed the train was traveling south where a woman who for unknown reasons was standing on the tracks and facing west.

A witness told police that the train’s horn sounded. The train stopped after the collision and Union Pacific conductors were cooperative with authorities, police said.

The woman’s name is pending notification of next of kin.
