Woman killed in Akron crash

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — A 28-year-old Akron woman died in a Monday morning crash, according to Akron police.

It happened just before 6:30 a.m. on Monday, according to a news release.

The woman’s SUV was headed south on Ghent Road. She failed to negotiate a curve, veering off the left side of the roadway and striking a concrete sign.

A fire ignited under the SUV’s hood, but it “quickly extinguished,” according to the release.

The 28-year-old Akron woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released, pending further investigation.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but investigators do not believe speed or alcohol were contributing factors.
