Woman injured in Route 422 collision

Mar. 19—A New Castle woman suffered an unknown injury in a three-vehicle collision Friday on Route 422 in Slippery Rock Township.

State police reported Jackie S. Oprean, 51, was driving a Honda Accord west on the highway near the intersection of Route 388. She told police her cruise control was set at 55 mph. As she checked her phone to check her GPS, she looked up just before hitting a Ford pickup truck driven by Ethan E. Stoner, 22, of New Castle from behind stopped at the red light.

The impact from Oprean's car pushed Stoner's truck into a Mercury Grand Marquis that was driven by Timothy L. Brooks, 60, of New Castle, police reported.

Oprean was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth's Youngstown Hospital. Neither Stoner nor Brooks was injured.

All three vehicles were towed. The Shenango Area Fire District and the Slippery Rock Township/Princeton Volunteer Fire Department assisted with the accident aftermath and traffic control.

Police did not indicate whether Oprean would be cited for the accident.

She had been cited in February and pleaded guilty to driving without required financial responsibility, driving with a suspended vehicle registration, driving at an unsafe speed and having improper tires in connection with a previous incident.
