Woman injured in Benson County crash

Apr. 19—BENSON COUNTY — A Towner woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash late Wednesday afternoon, April 17, approximately seven-and-a-half miles east of Leeds.

Carlotta Schall, 69, was traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 2 in a 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer, according to a press release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol. A 16-year-old male driving a 2016 Ford F-150, was traveling eastbound, slowed and turned north onto 63rd Street Northeast.

The 13-year-old female passenger, seated in the front seat, leaned forward and obstructed the driver's view of westbound traffic, the release said. The driver turned and, while traveling north across the westbound lanes of traffic, was struck by Schall's vehicle.

Schall was transported by ambulance to CHI Saint Alexius Hospital in Devils Lake for injuries she sustained in the crash.

Neither of the juveniles were injured, and their names will not be released, however, charges for the driver are pending, the release said.

All three individuals involved in the crash were reportedly wearing seat belts at the time, and their airbags were deployed. Road conditions were dry; weather conditions were cloudy and windy.
