Woman hit, killed by alleged DUI driver while trying to push broken-down car in northwest Las Vegas valley

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A woman was hit and killed as she tried to push her broken-down vehicle out of a travel lane in the northwest Las Vegas valley, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan police.

The driver who struck her, Cody Hill, 29, was arrested for DUI after showing signs of impairment and failing field sobriety tests, police said.

The crash occurred on Tuesday around 6:45 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Ann Road, just west of Jones Boulevard when the 59-year-old woman’s car broke down. Metro police said the woman and several bystanders were attempting to push the vehicle off the road when another driver in a Hyundai Veloster struck the rear of the woman’s car, then hit the woman and ended up driving over her.

Clark County Detention Center records show Hill is facing charges of DUI resulting in death, operating a vehicle with expired reg/plates, and failing to follow the duties of a driver who approaches a crash. He is due to appear in court for an initial appearance April 10.

Police said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her death marks the 48th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2024.

During the investigation, Ann Road was closed in both directions from Calvert Street to Bradley Road.
