Woman High on Bath Salts Shoots Herself in the Face!

Bath salt use is a devastating drug trend and for one young mother, it almost took her life.
Following a breakup, Kirsten turned to binging on baths salts to help numb her pain. The drug made her extremely paranoid and she began hearing voices. At her lowest, she snorted an entire vial of bath salts in one sitting and thought she was hearing her ex-boyfriend’s voice telling her to kill herself. After trying to stab herself, she broke into her father’s room where there were guns. After two failed attempts with two guns, she was successful with a third gun and shot herself in the face. Amazingly, the bullet went through her jaw and did not kill her.
Luckily her mailman heard her screams and called 911 for her. It was not until she was in the back of an ambulance being rushed to a hospital that Kirsten realized, “I did bath salts and I shot myself.”
The bullet shattered her jaw into almost 200 pieces and she was required to stay in the hospital for a week before being transferred to a psychiatric unit. After two weeks of treatment, Kirsten was released only to begin using bath salts again.
Kirsten and her mother Stacey join ER physician Dr. Travis Stork and she proudly says that she has been clean for a year. Though she is now suffering from debilitating TMJ following her gunshot wound and jaw surgery. She experiences extreme inflammation, aching, dizziness, headaches and neck and back pain. Some days she is unable to even function because of it.
“My hope is that your story will teach people out there that bath salts, though they may be technically legal, there’s nothing good about them,” ER physician Dr. Travis Stork says
The Doctors sent Kirsten to TMJ specialist Dr. Sid Solomon with the hopes of easing her pain and changing her quality of life. The Doctors also set up Kirsten with The Relationship Center in order to help her maintain her sobriety.
“Just because [bath salts are] legal does not mean it’s any better [than other drugs]. It’s not safe and in a lot of ways, it’s a lot worse than anything else… you’ll regret it,” Kirsten says of bath salts.
The Doctors wish Kirsten continued health and sobriety.
