Woman gets 24 years in husband’s shooting

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Shafter woman who pleaded no contest to shooting her husband in the face was sentenced Thursday to 24 years in prison, according to court records.

Krystal Juarez, 35, last month pleaded no contest to all charges filed against her, including attempted murder.

Her husband survived the attack; he was also hit three times in the shoulder.

Shafter police said Juarez shot her husband on Nov. 16, 2021, inside their apartment on Nickel Street and chased him to East Orange Avenue. Witnesses reported Juarez fired at him at least once outside.

Found face down in an alley, the husband, although seriously wounded, managed to tell police his wife shot him, police said in a court filing.

Officers found a bullet hole in a fence on Fuller Street and contacted a resident who said the round went through her kitchen window and struck her refrigerator, police said. She suffered a minor injury to her arm from either the bullet or debris.

Another bullet went through the front door of a home on Nickel Street, police said. It ended up on the bathroom floor.
