Woman fights off attacker on C&O Canal towpath near Point of Rocks in Frederick County

A woman walking along the C&O Canal towpath near Point of Rocks in southern Frederick County on Wednesday night narrowly escaped after being attacked by a man who she says watched her begin her route, then staked out the trailhead, waiting for her to return.

According to Maryland State Police, the attacker was no longer in the area by the time police arrived.

The National Park Service, in a news release, described the attacker and what he was wearing at the time. He was described as a white man with a red or strawberry blonde light beard. He is approximately 6 feet tall with a medium to heavy build.

He was wearing a baseball hat, a dark hoodie, dark pants and work boots.
