Woman dies after falling ill on AA flight traveling from Punta Cana to Charlotte

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A woman has died after authorities said she fell ill mid-flight on an American Airlines plane that was traveling from Punta Cana to Charlotte this week.

According to the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, American Airlines flight 2790 with service from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, to Charlotte, NC, was diverted to the Turks and Caicos Islands Wednesday evening, Feb. 28, after a woman on the plane fell ill.

The 41-year-old woman received CPR before she was transported to Cheshire Hall Medical Centre, where she died, police said.

Statement from American Airlines sent to Queen City News:

“On Feb.  28, American Airlines flight 2790 with service from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ) to Charlotte (CLT) diverted to Providenciales International Airport (PLS) for the medical needs of a passenger. First responders met the aircraft and one passenger was taken to the local hospital. The flight continued to CLT the following day.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the woman’s cause of death.
