Woman dies after being struck by car on Niles Street

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A woman died early Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Niles Street Monday night, according to California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers reported to a crash on Niles Street, just east of Vale Street, on April 22, around 11 p.m.

According to officials’ preliminary investigation, the pedestrian was walking northbound, across eastbound lanes of Niles Street, outside of a marked crosswalk.

For reasons still under investigation, an eastbound Kia vehicle struck the pedestrian. The unidentified woman sustained major injuries and was transported to Kern Medical, CHP said.

On Tuesday morning, at approximately 2:31 a.m. CHP was notified the woman had died of her injuries. Her name will be released by the Kern Coroner’s office at a later time. The two occupants in the Kia did not report any injuries.

CHP officials said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
