Woman who died at the scene of a Merced hit-and-run crash is identified

The Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office has identified the pedestrian struck and killed by a vehicle in a Merced hit-and-run crash as 37-year-old Alicia Ann Brown of Merced, according to Deputy Alexandra Britton.

Merced police officers responded to the area of R Street between Loughborough Drive and Buena Vista Drive at 5:21 a.m. Wednesday after passing motorists found a woman in the roadway.

Arriving officers located Brown lying in the road suffering from what police said were injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle.

Paramedics attempted lifesaving measures but were unsuccessful, and Brown was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said it was unknown what she was doing in the roadway and she was not near a crosswalk at the time of the crash.

Police said it appears she was struck by a vehicle traveling south on R Street. Based on preliminary information, authorities said the vehicle that struck Brown may have been a full-size pickup truck.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Officer Matt Calcagno at 209-769-8885 or the Merced Police Department Dispatch at 209-385-6905.
