A young mother who reportedly tried to save her baby daughter’s life has been identified by multiple outlets as one of the deceased victims in the April 13 stabbing attack at an Australian mall.

Ash Good, a 38-year-old mom whose 9-month-old daughter reportedly was also injured in the attack in Sydney, died in the hospital after the stabbing, according to News.com.au, The Telegraph and The Independent.

The New South Wales Police Force told PEOPLE on April 13 that it is “unable to confirm the identity of people involved.”

News.com.au reported that the woman died while protecting her daughter during the attack that left six others dead — including the alleged attacker, who was shot by a responding police officer. The outlet notes the woman died shortly after being rushed to St Vincent’s hospital.

Good's friend told News.com.au that she was a “beautiful human” and the “world’s best mom.”

The New South Wales Police Force confirmed that emergency services responded to the Westfield Bondi Junction Shopping Centre around 3.30 p.m. local time on April 13, after the attacker fatally stabbed six people and injured several others.

“An officer attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command attended and was allegedly confronted by a man with a knife,” a statement read. “The man allegedly lunged at the officer, before he was fatally shot.”

New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb said in a news conference, per 7News Australia, that authorities were “waiting to formally identify” the attacker, describing him as a “40-year-old man” who was acting alone.

Webb also said at the time that the infant child injured in the attack was taken to a local hospital for surgery, and that one of the victims — who outlets now report was Good — later died in the hospital.

A man outside the mall during the incident spoke to 9News Sydney about how he attempted to help when “the baby got stabbed.“ As he explained, the mother “came over with the baby and threw it at me, with this hole in the baby, it looked pretty bad.”

Footage from the attack, shared by multiple outlets, has since shown a shopper confront the alleged attacker — who appeared to be holding a knife on an escalator — by walking toward him with a shopping bollard.

“A critical incident team comprised of State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and the Central Metropolitan Region will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation will also be subject to an independent review," police said in a release.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that he was “briefed by the AFP on the devastating events at Bondi Junction.”

“Tragically, multiple casualties have been reported and the first thoughts of all Australians are with those affected and their loved ones,” he said.
