Woman charged with prostitution after agreeing to sex with undercover cop

SCRANTON — A Taylor woman who posted an advertisement on a public website offering sexual services agreed to meet up with an undercover cop, posing as a customer, police said.

Tara Marie Hassler, 38, of 32 Vine St., is charged with prostitution.

According to the criminal complaint:

During an investigation, Scranton police became aware Hassler had posted to the website and an officer began a conversation with her, posing as a potential customer.

Hassler agreed to meet the undercover officer at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the 200 block of Adams Avenue, police said.

A records check indicated Hassler was wanted by Lackawanna County Sheriff’s Department for felony drug charges and by the Luzerne County Sheriff’s Department for criminal use of a communications facility.

Hassler arrived at the agreed-upon area and texted the officer, according to the complaint.

Officers spotted Hassler and then texted her they no longer wanted to meet.

Hassler walked north and got into a Ford Escape, where she was arrested.

She allegedly admitted she was there to exchange sexual services for money and knew she was wanted in two counties.

Hassler had a crack pipe with her. A search of her vehicle yielded 2.5 grams of crack cocaine and two baggies containing heroin, police said.

She is also charged with flight to avoid apprehension, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. on May 29 before District Judge George Seig.
