A woman in Florida was allegedly caught trying to pay just £2.80 for a haul of electronic goods worth £1,400 in an epic barcode scam.

Cheyenne Amber West, 25, was arrested along with a friend after they replaced the barcodes on a stash of goods, including video game controllers and a laptop, according to police.

The pair, who were in a branch of Walmart, are said to have taken their items to the clearance section of the store, where they took them out of their packaging.

They then allegedly put reduced price stickers on them and took them to the self-service checkout in a bid to avoid any challenges by staff.

The tally of the scammed goods came to $3.70 (£2.80) – a far cry from the actual total cos of $1,825.20 (£1,400).

It was only when a security officer noticed what the pair were doing that they were caught.
